Bring in your old mobile phones

As part of the ongoing fundraising efforts for the new building project, we are asking you to bring in your old mobile phones. We will pass these phones on to a company that will give us money for the phones that they can sell on.
Please look in your drawers, ask your neighbours and friends - most of us have a mobile phone we no longer need and we can turn it into cash!
Please hand in your phone at the school office where they will be securely stored until the company collects them from us. We are collecting phones right up to the end of January, so you can bring in your old phones if you get a new one from the man in red or you have time to declutter your house.
Below is some more information about this collection that you should read.
How much is my phone worth?
This is hard to say. Generally, the newer the phone, the more it is worth. 'Smart' phones or Blackberrys are great and would earn us a lot of cash, but any phone will help. Some phones will only earn us few pounds, but every little helps as they say.
My phone is broken, do you still want it?
Yes - the value of the phone will be less, but it may still fetch a few pounds for the fund.
What about SIM cards or memory cards or things I have stored on my phone?
The company doesn't need any cards and we won't get any money for them, so we suggest you keep/destroy them and move all data off your phone. Any cards you leave in the phone will be destroyed by the company and any data on the phone will be erased. However, please ensure you have erased any personal data before handing in your phone.
What will happen with my phone?
Once the phones have been cleared of any data and have been tested, the phones will be sold on by the company to developing countries. In many of these countries, fixed landlines can be expensive or simply not available. Second hand mobiles are an affordable and sustainable means of communication that help businesses to run more efficiently and families to stay in touch more easily.
What about chargers?
Unfortunately, chargers are not reusable as the plugs differ in different countries. Furthermore, they are too heavy to make it financially viable to ship abroad. However, you can bring in your charger and the company will break them down and recycle them.
Organise your own collection!
Working in an office or organisation with lots of people? Do you have a notice board? You can download a poster in PDF format, print it and display it in your office. Collect phones there and hand them in at school. When downloading the poster, please add your name/department in the blank space at the bottom and also write it in the orange strip so that people know who collects the phones. Thank you!
