Spirals After School Care

Spirals offers safe, fun and nurturing after school care at the end of a busy school day with a range of outdoor play and high quality indoor provision.

 

Children are involved in the planning of activities.  There are a range of activities to choose from such as arts and crafts, reading, construction, small world, physical play. There is also a quiet area to relax, computers and a homework table should they need to complete homework.

 

Which years can attend?

 

After School Club is available for children from Reception up to Year 6.

 

At the end of the school day all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be collected from their classrooms and taken to “The Lodge”. Children in Year 3 and above will make their own way there.

 

How do I book?

 

To book a place, please complete and return the attached registration form with contact details, emergency numbers, any relevant medical and dietary information about your child.

 

  1. Please read, sign and return the Parental Contract

  2. Once we have received your completed forms you will be sent confirmation of a place and an invoice for the sessions required. Payments must be made half-termly in advance.

 

 

What is the staffing for the After School Club?

 

There will be at least two members of staff in attendance at any time and legal guidelines to the adult/child ratio will always be adhered to. There may also be volunteers that will give additional support to Spirals.

 

Will my child have something to eat?

 

Light snacks that are prepared daily will be available. Children will only be able to eat the snacks provided at Spirals and will not be permitted to bring their own food to eat.

 

How much does it cost?

 

  • Please see table below with the range of prices, these rates vary depending on collection time and if your child is attending another Afterschool Club/Activity from 3:15pm to 4:15pm.

  • There is a sibling discount of 10%.

  • We understand that on some occasions a place may be required at short notice. In these cases, if there are available places, there is an additional “Short Notice” rate.

  • Payments must be made half term in advance.

How do I pay?

 

  • We will accept Childcare vouchers for payment. Please make a note on your Registration form that you will be using childcare vouchers and your voucher provider name.

 

Once you have received confirmation of a place, payments should be made via the School Office and can be made by:

 

Cheque, making cheques payable to ‘Mandeville Primary School’

Online system (please ask for further details)

 

What happens if I am late?

 

If you are likely to be late please phone the After School Care team to notify them with as much notice as possible.

Parents who are late collecting their children will be charged an additional fee of £5 per 15 minutes to cover additional staffing costs. Places will be withdrawn if children are regularly collected late.

 

Where do I pick my child up?

 

Parents or carers will use the gated entrance by “The Lodge”, at the bottom of the Early Years outside area to collect their children. There will be a secure door with a door bell and an entry-phone system where they can speak to staff for admittance into the building to collect their children. Please note that for the safety of children, they will only be released to parents/carers that are listed as contacts on their registration forms. Please advise the School office and Spirals After School Care of any changes.

 

What happens if my child does not attend a booked session?

 

If your child does not attend for any other reason apart from sickness and you do not notify the Children’s Support Worker at least a week in advance, you will be charged a cancellation fee of the daily rate.

 

What if my child is unwell?

Children will not be allowed to attend Spirals if they are too unwell to be at school. In this case, you will be provided with a credit for the amount of days your child was unable to attend.

 

If your child becomes unwell during the session, then parents/carers will be notified and required to collect their child as soon as possible.

 

If your child has medication in school (e.g. inhaler for asthma), you will need to provide additional medicine that will be stored in the Lodge.

 

Parental Contract

Obligation of Spirals:

 

  • Spirals After School Care will be run by Mandeville Primary School.

  • Spirals is currently operating for children attending Mandeville Primary School only, however children from surrounding schools may be able to attend at a later date.

  • Spirals will provide a light snack and activities (e.g. board games, outdoor play, arts and crafts, reading). Spirals will comply with environmental health food safety standards.

  • Homework table will be available to children should they need to complete their homework, however club staff are not responsible for helping children with their homework.

  • There will be at least two members of staff in attendance at any time and legal guidelines to the adult/child ratio will always be adhered to.

  • Spirals will comply with Mandeville School Policies.

 

Obligations of Parents/Partners:

 

  • Complete all relevant registration documentation (registration form, medical, and permission for taking photographs).

  • Parents are asked to keep Spirals After School Care informed, in writing, of any changes to family contact details and medical information/allergies.

  • Parents must be prompt in collecting their children from “The Lodge”. If there is any change in arrangements of who will be collecting your child from Spirals please notify the After School Care Team beforehand in writing.

  • Occasionally photos may be taken of the After School Care children for display purposes. If you object to your child being photographed please ensure the appropriate box is ticked on the registration form.
     

Children: Admissions

 

  • Where there are more children waiting for a place than there are places, priority will be given in the following order:

    • Children in public care or who have a particular medical or social need (needs to be supported by external evidence)

    • Preference will be given to those children who require 5 days, then 4 days, then 3 days and so on.

    • Children who have siblings at Spirals.

  • Children will not be allowed to attend Spirals if they are unwell or have an infection. In this case, you will be provided with a credit for the amount of days your child was unable to attend.

  • Spirals may require the parent/carer to collect their child from the After School Care if the child requires special care or medical attention which is not available.

     Fees:

  • There is a scale of charges depending on collection time. Fees will be reviewed April of each year.  Payments need to be made half-termly in advance. The school reserves the right to exclude a child if fees are not paid.

  • If there are places available we can accept short notice/emergency and there will be an additional charge where necessary.

  • If you think you are going to be late collecting your child you must call the After School Care team with as much notice as possible . Parents who are late collecting their children will be charged an additional fee of £5 per 15 minutes to cover additional staffing costs. Places will be withdrawn if children are regularly collected late.

  • There is no After School Club on the last day of each term when the School closes early.
