  • Academy Status

    Fri 11 May 2012

In May 2010, the Department for Education (the DfE) invited all outstanding and good schools to convert to an Academy. Academy status is designed to allow schools to benefit from greater flexibility and freedom from Local Authority control.

Mandeville School Governing Body has considered the potential advantages and disadvantages of converting to Academy status and made an application to convert to the Department for Education (DFE). As an academy Mandeville  will remain a local primary school serving the local community.

    Oct 2012

Mandeville's application to convert to an academy has been considered and approved by the DfE, an academy order has been granted and a legal team appointed to progress our conversion.

    January 2013

The school began the new year as an academy.  Mandeville will lead the newly established Spiral Academies Trust, providing new opportunities for staff and children.  This is a very exciting time for the school,  although many administrative changes are taking place, which will ensure a strong and sustainable future for the school, we are confident that there will be very few changes for children and parents - it's business as usual for learning and progress!

Spiral Academies Trust was immediately approved as an academy sponsor by the Secretary of State for Education.

The DfE has also approved our application to sponsor Chaulden Junior School, We anticipate Chaulden will formally join Spiral Academies Trust on May 1st  2013, in the meantime we are already working in close partnership with Chaulden to ensure children are receiving a rapidly improving quality of education.
