  • Community Gardening Day

    Thu 04 Jul 2019 K. Fenner

On Saturday Mandeville hosted the first community gardening day with the aim of improving the school environment for our pupils and to get together as a local community to share everyone's expertise and knowledge. The day was a huge success, despite the 34 degrees heat, with many local residents, families and key figures from the Sopwell community attending and getting their hands dirty!

It was lovely to share the day with so many of our school families, Becky our local vicar, Emma Matanle and Sandy Walkington, our local and district Councillors, lots of Mandeville staff and the Mayor of St. Albans, Janet Smith. We would specially like to thank anyone who donated money, plants, pots, compost or seeds and both Ayletts and Burton Tyler garden centres, who donated many bedding plants, bags of compost and hanging baskets. Also extra special thanks to Sharon Linney for promoting our event far and wide, Grace Muriel residents and Siouxsie for coming along on the day, Jamie Morris for providing advice and guidance on what to plant where, all the amazing Mandeville staff for giving up their time at the weekend to support the event and the local company Garden on a Roll, who generously donated a 10 metre border, full of plants to brighten up the front of our school.

Mandeville's first community gardening day had such a lovely community spirit and it was so lovely to see the community connecting across generations.

  • Gardening at Grace Muriel house

    Fri 07 Jun 2019 E. Bundy

"Bursting with anticipation, Year 5 strolled to Grace Muriel house and gardened some mesmerizing flowers and fruit. The next time we went, we made the elderly smile with joy and did some weeding. At the end of the day we got to speak to all of them. It was astonishingly surprising listening to their childhood stories. A lady shook our hands carefully, she was 101 years old and her name was Louise. She had survived both world wars".

  • Lior and Sidra Friendship Award

    Fri 05 Apr 2019 E. Bundy

On the last day of term Sidra and Lior were proud recipients of the Friendship Award based on this letter:

"I would like to nominate Lior and Sidra for the friendship award. Throughout the year I have seen many occasions where both girls have shown concern and thoughtfulness to others. On one occasion, the girls stopped their own playtime to go and comfort a girl who had been upset by the nastiness of others. Not only did they listen to the girl's point of view, but they also got her back to a positive mindset so that she could go back to learning after break. I have had the pleasure of seeing Sidra and Lior grow and mature throughout the year. They are both wonderful examples of a Mandeville student." (miss Ellingham)

    Thu 31 Jan 2019 E. Bundy
For the past 20 years, Young Voices has staged the largest children's choir concerts in the world. Music is specially selected to create a diverse musical repertoire all with the intention to introduce children to the widest possible spectrum of music. Our choir children had yet again the opportunity to take part in the largest children's choir in the world last night. They were all singing together with other 8400 children. This experience provides life long memories for them and their families and boosts their confidence. It was an amazing performance and nothing can prepare you for the sound of thousands children singing together in harmony. We have to say big thank you to our teachers for teaching them songs and giving up their time so the children could have such a fabulous experience. Thank you!
  • Friendship Award

    Fri 21 Dec 2018 E. Bundy

This term Lexie was nominated for the Friendship Award. Lexie is very kind a caring member of the Ladybirds class who is everyone's friend. Lexi is quick to notice if someone is hurt, upset or all alone and always offers to look after them or play with them. She went out of her way to make the new members of our school feel welcome in September by offering to show them around and including them in her games.

Lexie also takes as much pride in her friends' successes as she does her own and will often point out someone else's new learning to the adults in the class so that everyone can celebrate. Well done Lexie!
