The Key Stage 1 Curriculum

At Mandeville teach children in three mixed age classes in KS1  based on the belief that children would thrive in these inclusive environments. The rationale for a mixed-age curriculum includes improved social-emotional development through collaboration with a wider range of peers, an environment that fosters a greater sense of cooperation and teamwork, enhanced communication as children articulate and adjust to diverse social dynamics, and academic benefits like increased independence and opportunities for peer tutoring. Our older children benefit from developing leadership and nurturing skills, whilst our younger children learn through positive role modelling by older peers. It allows for more flexibility with dynamic groupings based  on pupil need. This approach will lead to more personalised learning for each child.
