At Mandeville we believe learning should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone.  Our teaching aims to equip children with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to make informed choices about the important things in their lives and to take responsibility for their own learning. Embedded throughout the curriculum are the four Mandeville values: "Be Kind, Be Brave, Be Involved, Be a Learner"

We have worked hard to create a Mandeville Curriculum which follows the National Curriculum at the same time as providing the learning, opportunities and experiences that are particularly pertinent and important to our children. For this reason, PSHE in considered a core curriculum area alongside English, Maths and Science, and Latin is taught in KS2 to provide a strong foundation of language on which to build at secondary school later on, as well as supporting children's understanding of English spelling and grammar.

Core curriculum areas are supported by our thematic approach to the Foundation Subjects. This approach provides a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of our children’s learning. Each unit starts with an "Engage" task designed to excite and enthuse children about the topic to come, and finishes with an "Express" task in which the children are able to showcase and cascade their new knowledge and skills to others.

Children in upper key stage two benefit from an extra hour in their school day, finishing at 4.15pm on some days. During the last hour of these days, the children are taught art, music and PE aspects of their curriculum by specialist teachers. This ensures that our priority of providing a broad curriculum to our children is upheld and taught to a high standard, as well as giving an extra hour in the main part of the day for ensuring depth of learning in other subjects as the children prepare for secondary school.

At Mandeville School we believe in the value of lifelong learning and that people learn new things every day; learning should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone.  Our teaching aims to equip children with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to make informed choices about the important things in their lives and to take responsibility for their own learning.  We believe that appropriate learning will lead to happy and rewarding lives. Every aspect of our curriculum is underpinned by the five British values of:

  • Democracy
  • The Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty
  • Mutual Respect
  • Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs
